Bellevue boys take KingCo track and field meet, girls finish fifth | Track and Field Round-Up

The Bellevue boys proved who the deepest and most dynamic team in conference is at the 3A KingCo track and field meet, winning the team scoring by six points over Mount Si with a total of 143.

The Wolverines brought home a handful of victories, including a win in the 1,600 by Addison Woolsey (4:25.94), which was only two one-hundredths of a second ahead of second place finisher Aaron Elefson of Mercer Island. Woolsey also finished at the top in the 800 with a time of 1:57.20, over five seconds faster than his time in the preliminaries.

Rueben Mwehla, Ari Morales, Joey Moore and Tyrell Moulton avenged a dropped baton by the Wolverines at the All-City meet to capture the top spot in the 1,600 meter relay with a time of 43.77.

In perhaps the most predictable outcome of the meet, Tanner Lien and Matt Gilbert went one-two in the javelin throw with tosses of 185-04 and 183-09 respectively in the finals.

Moulton came in half a second behind Juanita’s Travis Marshall in the finals of the 100 and also ended the meet in fourth place in the 200.

Woody Butler qualified for districts with a third place finish in the 400 while John Fowler and Spike Sievert did likewise in the 3,200 with third and fourth place finishes respectively.

Woolsey, Morales, Butler and Henry Price move on in the 1,600 meter relay with a fourth place finish, Stephen Ryder tied for the second best high jump at 5-06, Blake Erickson vaulted his way into districts with a fourth place finish and Michael Kneip finished second in the shot put at 49-06 and third in the discus at 134.

On the girls side, the Wolverines were led by freshman Floriane Kameni, who won the long jump and finished second in the 100 meters.

Kameni teamed with Chanel Colinares, Emily Chinn and Alli Cahill to win the 1,600 meter relay and Chinn, Emily Webb and Delaney Ugelstad to finish third in the 800 meter relay.

Colinares came in second in the 100 meter hurdles and third in the 300 meter hurdles. Lillia Mora and Julia Ellings came in second and third in the 800 and Cahill earned a third-place finish in the high jump to round-out the qualifiers for the Wolverines.

The Bellevue girls ended in fifth place with a score of 87.5

The Sea-King District 2 track and field meet will take place May 18 and 20 at Southwest Athletic Complex in Seattle.

Totems will be in five events at District Meet

The Totems had a handful of athletes make it through to the district tournament, with Taylor Ragan finishing fourth in the 100 and running with Jamis Moy, Austin Lee and Adam Swartz to nab the final spot in the 400 meter relay.

Swartz also finished fourth in the long jump with a mark of 19-03.25.

Senior Catalina Narvaja and freshman Rebecca Laemmel were the two qualifiers for the Totems on the girls side, with Narvaja moving on in the shot put after a 28-11.25 and Laemmel’s 84-01 good enough for fourth in the discus throw.

Sammamish’s boys team finished the day in sixth place and the Totems ended the day in seventh on the girls side.

Jachim, Dupar highlight day for Newport in 4A action

It was a dead heat in the 110 meter hurdles in the 4A boys meet and it was a pair of Newport Knights who were involved.

Louis Jachim and James Dupar both finished at 16.06 in the finals to take the top spot and the two were at in again in the 300 meter hurdles, with Dupar nipping Jachim by just over sixth-tenths of a second for the second and final win of the meet for the Knights.

Other qualifiers for Newport on the boys side included Spencer Grubb (110 hurdles), Justin Duerkopp (pole vault), Jonathan Luu (long jump), John Bay (triple jump), Patrick Twaio (shot put, discus) and Anthony Marrese, also in the shot put.

For the girls, Alisa Poplawski (800), Jessica Spray (3,200), Kristine Wong (high jump, long jump, triple jump), Justina Grubb (high jump, triple jump), Kristin Lahaszow (high jump), Charcel Wafer (shot put) and Kara Reichenbach (javelin) are all moving onto the Bi-District meet, which takes place on May 18 and 20 at Quil Ceda Stadium in Marysville.
