Two return with wrestling tournament titles | Prep sports news

Bellevue and Sammamish saw wrestlers bring home titles from holiday invites.

Wrestlers from around the area competed in holiday tournaments over the holiday vacation and a pair returned with championship trophies for their troubles.

Bellevue’s Christian Villani, who won a 3A state title last season, won the Pac Coast Tournament at 145 pounds at Hudson’s Bay High School in Vancouver, Wash., winning all five of his matches including two by fall.

The 132 pound 3A state championship winner for the Wolverines last season, Villani began the Pac Coast with a 17-0 win over Central Kitsap’s Adam Appleton before coming back to earn a first round fall over Chiawana’s Masen Brown in the second round. Another quick pin over Mountain View’s Abraham Hansen sent Villani to the finals, where he won a 14-7 match over Hudson’s Bay senior Gunnar Metzger.

The tournament included representatives from 35 prep wrestling teams in Oregon and Washington.
