Sammamish’s Akana captures wrestling title

Sammamish senior Cameron Akana won the 215-pound title at the Brian Hill Invite on Dec. 26 at Eastside Catholic High School.

Cameron Akana, a Sammamish senior, won the 215-pound weight class at the Brian Hill Invite, held at Eastside Catholic High School on Dec. 27.

Akana defeated Juanita sophomore Jeremiah Laufasa 13-2 in a major decision to capture the title. Akana was also named the Outstanding Wrestler for the Upper Weights in the tournament.

Sammamish finished in 12th place as a team with 42 points. Kentridge won the tournament with 232.5 points, while Juanita took second with 151.
