Pitch, run and hit competition set at Newport High

Newport High School will play host to the Aquafina Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit and Run Competition on May 2.

Bellevue Blast and Thunderbird Little League will host the event, which will begin at 4 p.m. at the high school. The competition is open to any girls age 7 to 14 and participation is free. There are four levels of competition including local, sectional, team championships and the national finals at the 2010 Major League Baseball All-Star game in Anaheim, Calif.

The competition will consist of throwing strikes at a designated target, hitting from a batting tee for distance and accuracy and running from second base to home plate for time.

The event is for softball only and a birth certificate is required to participate.
