Newport one win away from state | Boys Basketball

Woodinville missed a three-point shot as time expired to lift Newport to a 64-62 win over the Falcons in the quarterfinals of the KingCo 4A tournament on Tuesday.

Isaac Dotson made one of two free throws with seven seconds left that put the Knights up by two points. Cole Wiper had 16 points to lead Newport (14-7). The Knights are just a game away from a state tournament berth, as they will play Ballard Friday at Juanita High School at 6:30 p.m.

If the Knights beat the Beavers (14-7), they will play in the KingCo 4A championship game on Feb. 18 against either Skyline or Garfield. Both teams that make the championship game earn an automatic state berth. Newport beat Ballard 64-61 on Jan.29.

If Newport were to lose, they would move to the consolation bracket, where they would have to win three straight games, including a pigtail game against a WesCo team, to clinch a state berth.

Bellevue boys to take No.1 or No.2 seed to districts

Will Locke scored a game-high 25 points and Nate Sikma had 17 to send Bellevue to a thrilling 68-64 double overtime victory over Lake Washington in the semifinals of the KingCo league tournament Tuesday at Bellevue College.

Bellevue got a late steal and senior Kendrick Van Ackeren was fouled on a layup with 8.9 seconds left. The layup went in, he hit the free throw and the game went to the first extra frame. Taylor would force a second overtime with another three-pointer with 38 seconds left in the first overtime with Lake Washington trailing by three.
