Local lacrosse players, coach, honored | Prep sports news

Bellevue, Bellevue East and Newport-Sammamish-Interlake each made more lacrosse news recently

Bellevue assistant coach Ashkaan Jaberi picked up an honor recently, as US Lacrosse Washington named him its Assistant coach of the Year for 2014.

Jaberi, also a member of the Bellevue football team coaching staff and a 2007 alum, played an integral role in the defensive game plan for the state title game against Issaquah.

The Eagles had beaten Bellevue earlier in the year, 6-5, but Jaberi’s plan was executed to perfection with a state crown on the line, and his team posted the first ever shutout in a Washington state championship game.

Coach John Baumann praised Jaberi in a postgame interview.

“Coach Ashkaan did a great job preparing our team.”

Sullivan named to girls All-State squad

Interlake High School senior and Bellevue East lacrosse player Camille Sullivan was honored as an All-State selection after helping BELAX to the state quarterfinals.

Cansler named Academic All-American

US Lacrosse named Bellevue senior goalie an All-American, after he helped his team to a state title on the field and earned AP Scholar distinction in the classroom.

Also a volunteer for several local organizations, including Congregation for the Homeless, Cansler is slated to attend the University of Washington in the fall.

NSI sending squad to World Games
