Newport takes KingCo title with win
Newport clinched the 4A KingCo championship last night with a straight set win over Issaquah, led by 33 assists from Emmy Freed and 15 digs from Morgan Kraus.
Anna Crabtree added nine kills and both Kelsey Davila and Casey Schoenlein tallied eight kills in the win.
The Knights finish the regular season with a 9-1 conference mark and with seven of those nine wins coming in 3-0 decisions. Only second-place finisher Roosevelt was able to take Newport to five games in a match this season.
Eighth seeded Ballard will be first up for the Knights in the 4A KingCo tournament, which begins on Saturday, Oct. 29 at Newport.
A win will set up a match with either Woodinville or Bothell for a spot in the 4A state tournament.
Interlake 3 Liberty 1 (25-14, 25-19, 29-31, 25-15)
The Saints, who earned the top seed from the 2A Seamount League with their regular season mark of 12-4 (10-4 in 3A KingCo) avenged an earlier defeat with a 3-1 win over Liberty in the regular season finale.
Alyssa Deardorff had a team-high 35 assists while Carolyn Fordyce (15), Jackie Nelson (8) and Kori Maitlen (9) continually finished points for Interlake.
The sub-district tournament begins on Saturday at Franklin Pierce High School at noon.
Bellevue 3 Sammamish 0
Memie Huang had four aces, two kills and nine digs to go with one assist and Jessie Marvin had a team high nine kills for the Wolverines in the win. Ashley West added 16 assists for Bellevue.
