Bellevue sets state record for consecutive wins, Newport moving on | Prep football news

Bellevue and Newport each picked up wins, the Knights' coming in a loser-out game, to move to next week's district playoffs.

Bellevue 49 Mercer Island 7

The Islanders kept touch for part of the first half with the six-time defending 3A state champions, but were unable to string together enough offense or slow down the bevy of Bellevue playmakers in the Wolverines’ 49-7 win.

The victory not only secured another perfect run through 3A KingCo, it set the state record for consecutive overall wins at 49. Bellevue has not lost since a 2010 game against Skyline.

It will be another home game for the Wolverines next week in the district playoffs, as they look to push their state record for consecutive titles to seven in the 3A tournament.

Newport 49 Woodinville 24

The Knights used another offensive outburst against the Falcons to keep their season alive, winning 49-24 in the 4A KingCo crossover round to take one of the five seeds to next week’s district playoffs.

Lake Washington 31 Sammamish 0

Sammamish was unable to finish off the second step of its improbable playoff run, falling to its 2A counterpart in Lake Washington to finish the regular season and end any hopes of making the 2A district tournament.

The Totems will face a Metro League foe in a non-conference game to close out the year.

Juanita 52 Interlake 0

It was another long night to close the 3A KingCo slate for the still winless Saints, which were handled by Juanita 52-0 a week after losing claim to the Crossroads Cup.

Interlake will face Ingraham of the Metro League next week.
