Bellevue and Mecer Island will play for the 3A KingCo title in boys and girls basketball Thursday at Bellevue College, after each picked up a win in the semi-final round Tuesday.
The Wolverines’ girls came back from a late deficit to beat Juanita for the first time in three tries, 56-48 behind a game high 21 points from Shelby Cansler.
Bellevue trailed by nine entering the final quarter, but used a 22-5 advantage over the final eight minutes to leave with the win and send the Rebels to Saturday’s opening round at the Sea-King tournament. The Wolverines will try and make it three straight conference tourney titles Thursday at 6:30 p.m., with the top seed to districts also on the line.
Bellevue Christian made it three straight postseason wins in 1A girls hoops, beating Cascade Christian 48-37 behind 14 points from Rachel Berg and 13 more from Ashley Osborn. The 1A tri-district tournament starts Feb. 18, with six spots to the 1A Regional round up for grabs.
Bellevue boys one win from completing KingCo perfection
The Bellevue boys remained perfect against 3A KingCo foes this year, beating Mount Si 58-41 to set a championship date with Mercer Island Thursday at 8:15 p.m.
The Islanders won the other semi-final 46-36 over Liberty to earn their title game spot. The Wolverines won the first matchup between the two handily in early January, before a half-court buzzer-beater sunk the Islanders in a 56-53 Bellevue win Feb. 4.
