Sixteen girls from the Bellevue and Mercer Island school districts will be honored at a reception by the Lake Washington Branch of the American Association of University Women as part of AAUW Scholars program Wednesday. Each was chosen by her school as outstanding in math, science, or technology.
They were given certificates of excellence, flowers, and their many activities and other achievements were described by Roberta Brown, a Lake Washington Branch AAUW member. Rpbun Wilmouth, from Engineers without Borders was the guest speaker for the evening.
Math awards went to Madison Hagen, Marissa Karpack, Jeannette Yu, Nicoline Bach, and Emily Nassif.
Science awards went to Sarah Gunby, Mira Spurgeon, Larissa Nakatsu, Amaris Chen, Jane Kwon and Samantha Simas.
Those outstanding in technology were Xena Vronay Ruggles, MacKenzie Harlan, Sophia Wang, Kayla Mendel and Christina Lee.
These girls will have pictures displayed with other high school scholars from throughout the state at the organization’s state convention.
The American Association of University Women is a national organization that promotes education and equity for all women and girls. It is open to women with degrees and certificates from regionally accredited institutions as well as students enrolled in bachelor or associates degree programs.
