SJ Murphy and her daughter, Fiona, 11, were walking their dog when they came discovered the duck’s plight. Concerned for the ducklings’ safety, Murphy called upon Lt. Paul Davison, firefighter Aaron Wong and engineer Sean Allen to help the birds.

After following Murphy to the drain, at 86th Avenue Northeast and 27th Place Northeast, the firefighters removed the storm drain cover and retrieved five of the ducklings. However, the remaining two moved farther into the storm drain. In order to retrieve the remaining ducklings, Wong and Allen used a hose to flush the birds toward Davison, who grabbed them and placed them in the box with the others.

While this was Davison’s first experience with ducklings, he said the animal rescues are a standard part of the job.
