Serial bank robber strikes Cascade Bank at Top Food and Drug in Crossroads

A man whom the FBI suspects of being a serial bank robber struck the Cascade Bank at Bellevue’s Top Food and Drug, located along Northeast 15th Street, on Nov. 25.

Police are still looking for the thief, described as a 25-year-old white male, approximately 200 pounds and 6-feet 1-inches in height with an athletic build.

The man implied that he had a gun and made off with an undisclosed amount of money that included a die pack, which would have exploded outside the bank.

Police are advising all money handlers to report purchases made with cash that contains red or pink stains.

FBI agents suspect that the thief was involved with other bank robberies on Nov. 24 at the Top Food and Drug in Woodinville, Nov. 20 at the Marysville Albertson’s, and Oct. 31 at a stand-alone Washington Mutual branch in Everett.

“It looks like most of what he’s done has been in-store branches,” said FBI spokeswoman Robbie Burrows.

Robberies of this variety are common for criminals looking to avoid suspicion because they can pretend to be shopping while scoping out a target, according to Burrows.

“They feel more comfortable that way,” she said. “It’s not as much of a commitment as it is walking through the doors of a stand-alone bank.

“It seems like once they do it this way, they stick with that type of branch.”
