Newcastle outlines transportation improvement plan

The city of Newcastle has a new updated plan to maintain and improve streets, sidewalks and walkways from 2010-2015.

The city’s Capital Investment Program is a six-year plan that identifies capital projects and their costs, and funding sources and includes the Transportation Improvement Plan (TIP). The TIP is a planning tool required by state law to assure that each city has available advanced plans as a guide in carrying out a coordinated transportation program. The law requires that each city hold a public hearing to adopt a revised six-year TIP every year.

The planned project improvements include street paving and maintenance, a new signal at 129th Avenue Southeast and Newcastle Way, and improvements on Coal Creek Parkway from Newcastle Way to the north border/monument.

Additionally, there is interest in placing a new traffic signal near the main entrances of both shopping centers to allow for better access.
