Elderly Bellevue man suspected in wife’s shooting

An 85-year-old Bellevue man is in custody after allegedly shooting his wife Thursday evening, according to police.

An 85-year-old Bellevue man is in custody after allegedly shooting his wife Thursday evening, according to police.

Bellevue police received a call around 7:30 p.m. on May 12 alerting them to a shooting on the 16400 block of NE 13th St. The suspect, who has not been identified publicly at this time, reportedly told his neighbor that his wife shot himself.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers concluded that the man shot his wife, who is in her mid-70s. She was conscious when officers arrived at the home and was transported to Harborview Medical Center. The man was taken into custody for questioning.

Police do not suspect drug or alcohol use was a factor in the shooting and said the suspect did not exhibit signs of mental illness. The motive for the shooting is unclear at press time.
