Bellevue youth teams with Hopelink, Office Depot to collect school supplies

Dillon More, of Bellevue, a member of Boy Scout Troop, is working with Hopelink and the downtown Bellevue Office Depot organizing a Kid’s School Supply Drive starting this week.

A senior at Sammamish High School, Dillon is working toward earning his Eagle by having volunteers hand out school supply wish lists, collecting the needed supplies and then delivering the needed items to Hopelink to be given to low income school-children who, without help, would lack the school required tools they need to complete their schoolwork.

“As every child knows, it’s embarrassing to show up for the first day of school with the ‘wrong’ supplies or worse yet, no supplies at all,” Dillon said. “My goal is to collect supplies for around 250 children or more. Kids shouldn’t suffer in school because families couldn’t afford supplies.”

Given the tight financial circumstances of many families, Hopelink expects more parents than ever before to request school supplies this fall.

The week long drive will be at the downtown Bellevue Office Depot, 100 108th Ave. N.E. through Tuesday, August 17. Items such as three-ring binders, markers, erasers, backpacks for older kids, scissors for younger kids, pencil boxes and rulers will be on the list. Monetary donations also will be accepted to purchase the needed supplies.
