The Seattle Art Museum Gallery will exhibit Bellevue artist Suzanne DeCuir’s oil paintings as part of a new exhibition titled Urban, which will run from May 13 through June 11. An opening reception will be held on Thursday, May 13, from 5-7 p.m.

DeCuir spent a number of afternoons walking in downtown Seattle, searching the streets for points of view that were unusual or striking.

“At dusk, the light changed, the city started looking more like a forest of patterns and shapes, and I found some interesting images of Jazz Alley, the Alaska Way Viaduct, and traffic viewed from the Monorail,” she said. “I am more interested in creating a visually-complex image of shape and color than a hyper-realistic view that has less mystery, less to think about.”

The Seattle Art Museum Gallery is a supportive arm of the museum. It rents and sells the work of Northwest artists to individuals and corporations. The SAM Gallery is located east of the museum at 1220 Third Avenue, at the corner of University Street and Third Avenue in Seattle. Hours are Tuesday – Friday, 10:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.
