As a Harvard trained economist, top graduate of Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs and successful business leader, Ed Luera has all of the skills, knowledge and experience that our School District will need to help guide the District as it deals with issues of overcrowding, enrollment forecasting, capital planning and efficient construction scheduling, righting our special needs programs, eliminating our achievement gap, diversity, etc. Ed Luera also offers our children heart.

Seven years ago I moved my family to Bellevue from France to take a position with Microsoft. My daughter, Floriane, was a shy, but bright and athletically gifted eleven year old who we enrolled in Chinook’s ELL program. Wanting to continue her track training, we joined a small local track club and that is when we met Luera. Since then, Luera has mentored my daughter and helped her and our family adjust to this wonderful country. I remember calling Ed in a panic with my daughter crying in the background because she had just learned that she would be moved to a new high school in the District and leave all of her friends behind. Ed immediately invited me over to his house so he could help me compose a letter to the District requesting a transfer due to hardship. The request was accepted and Floriane blossomed at Bellevue High. She has just been informed by Harvard College that she has been accepted to attend next fall and is looking forward to following in Ed’s footsteps at this world class institution.

Ed Luera’s compassion for the welfare of my daughter made all the difference in her life’s path and it is Ed’s enourmously big heart that will make all the difference for all our children on the Bellevue School Board.
