Seiko Itoyama Olson

Seiko Itoyama Olson passed away on August 7, 2016 at the age of 84. She was born in Kawazoe, Japan on January 1, 1932 and came to the United States at the age of 23, a young wife and mother.

She is survived by her husband Bob Olson, a son, two daughters, five grandchildren and one great-grandchild as well as a sister and brother in Japan.

Seiko was a talented musician and artist. She had her own booth at the Bellevue Art Fair showcasing her Japanese calligraphy. She loved music, performing the Japanese koto, as well as participating in the bell choir at her church, but her favorite instrument was the piano which she played all her life. She was an interpreter/representative for Bellevue in ceremonies accepting Yao as a Japanese sister city. She would swim five miles a day at the Samena Club. Seiko also volunteered at Keiro Nursing Home in Seattle where she sang and played piano for residents.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 27 at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 14230 SE Newport Way, Bellevue, WA 98006 at 2:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Aldersgate UMC specifying Ethiopia Fistula Project or Grace Boarding House are welcome in her honor.
