GARY WAYNE MOHR

Gary Wayne Mohr, 75, passed away peacefully on April 8, 2017 in Mount Vernon, WA due to complications from kidney cancer.

Gary is survived by his wife of 12 years Beverly J. Mohr. Beverly was Gary’s everything. He is also survived by sons of his previous marriage Scott P. Mohr and Chad M. Mohr, grandchildren Mieesha L. Mohr, Ashiono E. Mohr, Ava I. Mohr and brother Gregory K. Mohr. On his wife’s side he is survived by her daughters Becky Smith, Terrin Eichwald, and Danette Cox.

He is preceded in death by his parents Sigmund T. Mohr and Frankie J. Mohr. He is preceded in death on his wife’s side by her daughter Cassandra Hinckley Carter.

Gary was born on March 7, 1942 at Emmanuel Hospital in Portland, OR. He graduated from Portland Community College in 1967 with a degree in Electronic Engineering Technology while also working for Exact Electronics in Hillsboro, OR fabricating electronic equipment for production and new products.

In 1968 he moved to Redmond, WA and accepted a position as an Electronics Design Technician at Sundstrand Data Control where he worked for 28 years progressing through Junior Design Engineer, Design Engineer and then to Senior Manufacturing Engineer. He primarily worked on accelerometers for the aerospace industry. He retired from Siemens Medical after working for 5 years as a Senior Manufacturing Engineer on ultrasound transducers.

At the age of 14 he acquired his amateur radio license with the station call sign W7CRW and maintained interest through retirement. He was primarily interested in building a variety of electronic equipment and trying out the various operating modes. Gary was a member of the Radio Amateurs of Skagit County radio club and did volunteer work with the Amateur Radio Emergency Services Organization. He acquired his private pilots license in 1967 and up to 1977 had flown/owned a 1946 Piper J-3 Cub (his favorite) and a 1948 Piper PA-16 Clipper- in 1977 he flew the PA-16 up to Alaska to sell. From a very early age he had an interest in photography that lasted through retirement including, from about 1977 to 1987, running a part time business repairing old cameras and setting up a dark room. In 1987 he developed an interest in sailing, joined the United States Power Squadron and received his award for completing all their courses of which celestial navigation was his favorite. In about 1999 he became a volunteer Celestial Sight Checker in their education department. Over the years of boating he owned a 26’ Balboa and a 1964 Hinckley 35’ Custom Pilot and did cruising that included single hand circumnavigation of Vancouver Island and a trip to Juneau, AK. In 1991 he acquired his open water scuba diving certificate.

A special gratitude to Gary’s sons who have always remained loyal and loving to their father and stood by him throughout his life and during his passing. Gary loved his Aunt Colleen dearly and she was always a constant support to him. Also, thanks to Richard Rohweder and the Amateur Radio Emergency Services Organization who were always a friend to Gary. Bob Ruff, who worked with Gary was a constant and caring friend throughout his life.

A celebration of Gary’s Life will be held on May 7, 2017 from 1:30pm to 4:00pm at the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) in Redmond, WA. 4330 148th Ave NE, Redmond, WA 98052. Contributions can be made to the Wounded Warriers Fund through VFW.
