Bernardo Manuel Gonzalez

Bernie was born August 9, 1942 and passed away March 24, 2015 in his family home, surrounded by his loving family, Patty, the love of his life, and children

Jennifer Baumgartner (John), Jim (Christa), Stephen, and Nicholas (Jamie). He was a passionate family man who was blessed with eleven beautiful grandchildren.

He graduated from O’Dea High School (’60) and Seattle University (’65) and recently retired after an exciting career as a mechanical engineer. He worked as an engine safety and fire protection engineer at Boeing for eighteen years, then at the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for twenty-four years, and then again at Boeing for another seven years. He especially enjoyed doing accident investigations for the FAA, a job that involved traveling to many locations, including Indonesia, China, Japan, Russia, Israel, Ireland, Scotland, England, France, Belgium, Finland, Greenland, Iceland, Argentina, Columbia, Bolivia, Mexico, and the Yukon Territories.

In his younger years, he spent countless hours as a volunteer soccer coach for CYO and the Eastside Youth Soccer Association. With Patty, he organized CYO teen clubs at St. Madeline Sophie and Sacred Heart parishes. He also served as president of CYO at Sacred Heart for two years.

Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, who will always remember helping him build birdhouses and carry out other “tinkering” projects.

Recitation of the Rosary will be Tuesday, March 31st at 7PM, at Hoffner Fisher & Harvey Chapel 508 N. 36th Street, Seattle. A Celebration of Life Mass will be Wednesday, April 1st at 11 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church 9460 NE 14th Street, Bellevue. Remembrances may be made to Evergreen Hospice, Kirkland.
