Bellevue police are asking locals for help in the cold case of a missing child who vanished more than seven years ago without a trace.

Sky Metalwala went missing when he was two years old on Nov. 6, 2011, and police have released a call for help, along with an age-progressed photo, on the anniversary of his disappearance for the past two years. Bellevue, Redmond and FBI investigators have pursued more than 2,500 tips, investing 14,000 hours and $2 million into the lengthy investigation.

Sky’s ninth birthday was on Sept. 2.

“I hope that one day I can say that Sky has been found,” said Bellevue police Maj. Pat Spak in a 2016 interview. “While time can often be a disadvantage, sometimes it can also be an advantage.”

Julia Biryukova reported Sky’s disappearance after she left the 2-year-old in her car after it ran out of gas in Bellevue. The ensuing investigation revealed that Biryukova’s statements were inaccurate — her car was not out of gas and had no mechanical problems, yet she still abandoned the vehicle to supposedly get gas, police reported.

Biryukova only spoke to investigators the day he disappeared and has since refused to cooperate or participate in the investigation, police said. Sky’s father, Solomon Metalwala, has been an active supporter of the effort to locate the missing child.

Police urge anyone with information regarding the case to contact the Bellevue Police Department by contacting investigations Captain Travess Forbush at 425-452-6045 or email tforbush@bellevuewa.gov.
