Bellevue police honor their best and bravest

Bellevue police will recognize some of its most distinguished officers, and several brave citizens at its annual awards ceremony Wednesday.

Bellevue police will recognize some of its most distinguished officers, and several brave citizens at its annual awards ceremony Wednesday.

Police officials will honor 29 people for their service at the award ceremony, which begins at 3 p.m. at Bellevue City Hall. Those to be honored this year are:

Officer of the year: Officer Darrell Moore

Staff support employee of the year: Terri Massey

Life saving award: Officer Bill McGuigan for successful use of an AED, and Cpl. Andrew Popchock and Officer Ben Richey for successful CPR on a homeowner.

Commanders award: Officer Yong Lee for his work as firearms instructor, and Casey Hiam for his work as a patrol officer

Police medal award for exceptional bravery and courage in the line of duty: Officers Dave Finney and Dirk Graham.

Citizen Merit award: Frank Overton, Jill Wyke, Jenna Hatem and Jamiely Igram, for providing information to assist police in finding a hit-and-run suspect.

Year of service awards: Capt. Denny Bronson, Dets. Bob Thompson and Bob Herst and PSO Bob Murphy, 30 years; Capt. John McCracken and Det. Jim Lindquist, 25 years; support specialist Kim Harney, 20 years; Capt. Autumn Fowler, Officers Bryan Hershberger, Matt McDade, Leo Ramos, Brad Estill and Greg Mills, 15 years; Officer John Kivlin, 10 years; Det. Tom Ebersole and Officer Kealii Akhane, 5 years.
