Comments on education out of touch with reality | Letter

In her column published in the Oct. 13 edition, Liv Finne as a director at the conservative think tank, Washington Policy Reform, reveals herself to be out of touch with reality. Her comments on positioning and philosophy behind those opposed to Betsy DeVos are totally inane. Saying that the opposition wants “to keep families trapped in failing schools” just points out that she is incapable of seeing other points of view and alludes to her focus being self-serving. The opposition’s message is not that Ms. DeVos “should not be heard” but rather the strong voice of protest should be heard as a contrast to her ideas for educational systems that promote exclusivity and segregation. I was encouraged to see so many fellow Washingtonians stand in opposition for our beliefs.
