Regional qualifiers set to continue march to Mat Classic.

Villani takes sub-regional title for Bellevue

Coach Tom Ovens and Bellevue will send nine athletes to next weekend’s regional meet including sub-regional champ Christian Villani at 132 pounds.

Senior Jamey Mange was the runner-up at 170 and Alec Palander was second at 220.

Cutter Podoll, Dean Jones, Gabe Buccino and Nick Luera were third place finishers while Garrett Williams and Jason Presley were fourth.

The Wolverines, which finished third in the team scoring, are headed to Kelso High School on February 9 to face-off for spots at the Mat Classic state championships in the Tacoma Dome.

Totems send six, including champ Quiljada

Sammamish’s Juan Quijada won a title at 113 pounds for the Totems in the 2A Cascade Conference meet, which also included KingCo foe Lake Washington, and will be headed to regionals with five Totem teammates for head coach Joel Reese.

Rathtana Duong was the runner-up at 120 while Tomas Narvaja, Jake Johnson and Max Hummer brought home third place finishes. James Tate was fourth at 170 to earn a regional berth while Kyle Kasner and Dawson Conway will be alternates at regionals.

Shimoji outlasts KingCo heavyweights for Knights

In 4A, Newport’s Taylor Shimoji won the only title of the day for the Knights at 285 pounds after two byes and a pair of victories by pin.

David Yingling was the runner-up at 106 pounds and Diego Dwyer was third at 113.

Nikolay Lifshaz was fourth at 152 for the Knights and Gavin Strong finished in third at 170. Austin Curtis was third at 220 pounds.
