Wolverines win San Diego Open

Bellevue water polo team is peaking at the right time

The Bellevue Wolverines boys water polo team captured first place at the San Diego Open water polo tournament on Nov. 1. The Wolverines, who won the Washington State water polo tournament state championship in 2014, defeated Torrey Pines High School 4-3 in the semi-finals and conquered University City 11-6 in the finals. Wolverines coach Evan Kaseguma said it was the first time a non-California school had ever won the San Diego Open. Bellevue seniors Mina Abdel Shahed and Zack Rossman each scored 15 goals in the tournament. Mario Abdel Shaed also added 12 goals, scoring three goals in the finals. Bellevue goalie Ethan Wlaschin had eight saves between the posts against University City in title game.
