Mercer Island will host Bellevue and other top teams from around the West Coast and as far as New York this weekend.

The Wolverines gave last year’s Division II champs a wake up call in the second game of the season behind six goals from Cole Johnson and two more from Drew Douglas. Bellevue will face Mukilteo at home on Wednesday.

Tyler Wright netted five goals and Sammamish Lacrosse Club survived two overtimes to get the win. Wright, a Newport senior, also had a pair of assists and three ground balls and Morgan White of Sammamish High School finished with 11 saves.

Top prep lacrosse teams in nation coming to Eastside

16 of the top prep boys lacrosse teams from the West Coast and as far away as New York will come to Mercer Island this weekend for the Northwest Invitational and the Bellevue Wolverines will be on hand see where they stack up against a field full of playoff participants and three state champs from 2011.

The seventh installment of the tournament will feature: Guiderland (New York), Palo Verde (Las Vegas, Nev.), Lincoln (Portland, Ore.), Claremont School (Victoria, B.C.), Sunset (Portland, Ore.), Centennial (Las Vegas, Nev.) Lakeridge (Lake Oswego, Ore.), Jesuit (Portland, Ore.), Timberline (Boise, Ida.) Lake Oswego (Ore.), Skyline, Issaquah, Lake Washington, Mercer Island and Bellevue.

Camille Sullivan scored five goals to help Bellevue East to its first win of the season. The Interlake sophomore finished with an assist and three ground balls as well in the win.
