Kirk Tavener, a former Interlake girls junior varsity and boys C team coach, has accepted the head coaching position for the Saints girls soccer team.

Tavener spent the last two seasons as head coach of the Lindbergh girls soccer team in Renton, leading the squad to two state tournament berths. Tavener is still the coach of the boys soccer team at Lindbergh.

Tavener also coaches club soccer, a boys U-18 team and a girls U-14 team. The boys team made it to the state semifinals in the Recreational Cup this fall, while the girls team lost just one game during the regular season and made it to the elimination round of the State Cup.

“I am truly excited to be back at Interlake, some of my favorite teams and memories came while being a coach at Interlake,” Tavener said in an e-mail to the Reporter. “I can’t wait to meet all of the girls and to start drafting our summer development plans.”
