Newport led 3-1 but Liberty rallied to score six-straight runs to knock off the Knights 6-4 in non-conference play.

Erin Tsutsumoto went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs in the game. Newport pitcher Kayla Reynolds (0-1) took the loss, going four innings for the Knights.

Sammamish 9, Selah 4

Andrew Wenzl and Matt Young each scored twice as Sammamish opened up their boys division II varsity season with a 9-4 win at Interlake High School.

The Totems (1-0) raced out to a 4-0 lead in the first quarter, but Selah battled back for two goals in the second. Sammamish scored three in the third quarter to build back the big lead that Selah (0-2) couldn’t overcome.

Sammamish goalie Grant Ludlam had seven saves in the win.

Sammamish 2, Juanita 1

Sammamish senior Chris Lider scored with only nine minutes remaining in the match to give the Totems a big win in the opening of conference play.

Juanita (0-3, 0-1 KingCo 3A/2A) led most of the game after Mason Bochner scored seven minutes in. Duncan Dickerson scored off a Nate Wigley pass in the 43rd minute to tie the game for the Totems (2-1-1, 1-0).

Interlake 2, Liberty 0

Will Glenny and Miguel Castillo each scored for the Saints in a shutout win over Liberty.

Alex Quintana got the shutout for Interlake (3-0-1, 1-0) to hand the Patriots (4-1, 0-1) their first loss of the season.

Newport 3, Lake Washington 2

Sammy and Scotty Staples came through huge for Newport on Tuesday, as the pair combined for five points in the Knights 3-2 win over Lake Washington.

After Lake Washington’s Zachary Hammond scored for the Kang’s in the 6th minute, Sammy Staples scored off an assist from Scotty in the 11th minute to tie the game. Newport (2-3, 1-1 KingCo 4A) added two more goals in a seven minute span in the second half, as the Gabe Banfi scored on a pass from Scotty Staples in the 51st minute, and Scotty found Sammy again for a goal in the 58th minute.

Cameron Veres scored on a penalty kick for Lake Washington (2-3, 1-2).

Sammamish 13, Interlake 2

Ross Kulcyzk had two hits, including a triple, and knocked in two runs to help Sammamish beat Interlake 13-2 at Bannerwood Sports Park.

Anthony Aebi had two doubles for the Totems (3-1, 2-0 KingCo 3A/2A), helping Brandon Lawyer get the win on the mound.

Quinn Ressler took the loss for Interlake (0-4, 0-3).
