March 21

Newport 12, Port Angeles 1

Port Angeles jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning but Newport pounded out four runs in the bottom of the inning and eight runs in the fourth inning to dominate the Roughriders 12-1.

The Knights had 15 hits in the game and Zach Nasu and Kevon Zadeh each went 3 for 3 on the day. Nasu hit a homerun and drove in four for the Knights (1-1, 0-0 KingCo 4A).

A.J. Konopaski took the loss for Port Angeles, pitching only the first inning and allowing all four runs. Jared Fisher got the win for Newport, going two innings and allowing only one hit.

March 20

Bellevue 8, Mount Si 3

Bellevue took a 4-0 lead in the fourth inning and never looked back as the Wolverines downed Mount Si 8-3.

Jake Collier went 3 for 4 with a double and an RBI and Jeff Melby and Justin Patrick each knocked in two runs apiece for Bellevue. David Heyduck (1-0) got the win for the Wolverines (2-0, 2-0 KingCo 3A/2A), going four innings and allowing only three hits.

March 19

Roosevelt 6, Sammamish 4

Roosevelt put all its runs up in the first inning and Sammamish’s rally came up short as the Roughriders won 6-4.

Will Minice went 1-for-3 with three RBIs for the Totems (1-1) in the loss.

Sam Ellsworth took the loss for Sammamish.

March 17

Seattle Prep 17, Interlake 10

The Panthers broke a 6-all tie in the fourth inning with four runs and added six more in the sixth to race past the Saints 17-10.

The Panthers were aided by four errors by the Saints defense.

March 21

Mercer Island 3, Newport 1

After starting the season 1-1, Newport has lost three-straight games, capped off with a 3-1 loss to Mercer Island on Saturday.

The Knights trailed early, as Nick Ward scored only a minute into the game to give the Islanders the lead. Diego Corvalan and Jed Jacobson scored in the 49th and 55th minutes to build a 3-0 lead for Mercer Island before Newport’s Michael Kahn put the Knights on the board in the 60th minute.

March 20

Sammamish 7, West Seattle 1

Six different Totems scored goals as Sammamish routed West Seattle 7-1.

Duncan Dickerson, Chris Lider, Nick Rooney and Nate Wigley all scored before West Seattle’s Daniel Moy netted a goal that cut the lead to three.

Leland Matthaeus then scored twice and Jonathan Matson scored in the 79th minute to give Sammamish its first win of the year.

March 17

Bellevue 2, Newport 0

Race Sciabica and Liam Kelly scored unassisted goals as the Wolverines (1-0) defeated Newport 2-0.

Sciabica picked up the game’s first goal in the 28th minute, while Kelly’s goal came in the 65th minute.

Newport falls to 1-2-0 on the season with the loss.

Sammamish 1, Redmond 1

Redmond scored on an own goal but Taylor Berg hit Nick Rooney in the 74th minute, who blasted home the game-tying goal to help the Totems salvage the tie.

March 18

Interlake 0, Steilacoom 0

The Saints and Storm played to a 0-0 tie in non-conference action at Interlake High School.

Two days prior, Interlake dominated Granite Falls 6-1, with goals coming from James Lee, John Northey, Alex Dapogny and Andy Fordyce, who scored two goals for the Saints.

March 19

Newport 8, Woodinville 1

Newport swept Woodinville in singles competition and gave up only one match in doubles to defeat the Falcons 8-1 on March 19.

Amie Vo, Tamomi Matsushita, Emily Shavers, Lauren Kayahara, Lani Nunokawa and Patty Lee all won their singles matches in two sets.

Woodinville’s only win came from Cammi Powers and Crystal Nybo, who defeated Kayahara and Nunokawa 6-3, 2-6, 1-0 (10-7).

Softball

March 19

Fife 5, Interlake 4

Fife led 5-1 early, but Interlake rallied back, but could only score once in the bottom of the seventh in a 5-4 non-conference loss.

Sara Ostlund went 2 for 4 for Interlake (0-1) in the loss.

March 18

Kentridge 9, Bellevue 1

Kentridge pounded out 14 hits and limited Bellevue to three in a 9-1 non-conference win in Kent.

Emily Flieschman took the loss for the Wolverines (0-2). Kelli Suguro struck out eight in seven innings on the way to the win for Kentridge.

Cedarcrest 12, Bellevue Christian 6

Cedarcrest scored seven runs in the fifth inning and defeated the Vikings 12-6.

Ann Vakamoce had five RBIs for Cedarcrest, going 3 for 4 in the game with a triple and a homerun.
