Sports Briefs Downs earns GNAC Player of the Week honors

The 6-foot-4 sophomore guard scored two different buzzer-beaters to help the Falcons defeat 20th-ranked Cal State San Bernardino in double-overtime of the final game of the Sodexo Tip-Off Classic in Royal Brougham Pavilion. Downs finished with 22 points in the win.

Bishop impresses in Hawaii Winter League

Harrison Bishop, a BCC alum and a member of the Pittsburgh Pirates organization, continues to impress in the Hawaii Winter Baseball League.

Bishop, playing with the West Oahu Canefires, has a 2.76 ERA in 16.1 innings of relief. Bishop spent last year with Class A Hickory of the South Atlantic League.

Sacred Heart wins soccer championship

Sacred Heart School of Bellevue won the greater Seattle City CYO league soccer championship, its second-straight, with a 3-1 win over Our Lady of Fatima from Magnolia on Nov. 2 at Lakeside High School.

OLF scored the first goal of the game but Julia Hawn scored twice and Mary Floyd scored an insurance goal for Sacred Heart in the championship win.

Sacred Heart School finishes the season with a 10-0-1 record and never trailed in a game all season before the championship.

Special People’s Holiday Cruise kicks off Dec. 7

The 36th annual Special People’s Holiday Cruise will help kick off the holidays when more than 2,000 developmentally disabled adults will be treated to holiday snacks, jet-skiing reindeer and a visit with Santa Claus as they cruise through the Montlake Cut on Lake Washington and Lake Union on Dec. 7

Nearly 300 local boaters, nine dock and yacht club locations and thousands of volunteers contribute their time and decorate their vessels to create the largest lighted boat parade of its kind in the Northwest.

Individuals or companies can volunteer their time, boat or donations by contacting Seafair at 206-728-0123 ext. 111. Powerboats of 26 feet or longer are eligible for participation in the Special People’s Holiday Cruise.
