Postseason looms for preps | Prep sports news

The spring postseason opens this weekend and will continue through the final state tournament later this month. Follow the Reporter for updates.

4A KingCo

Baseball

The 4A KingCo baseball tournament begins on Saturday at 10 a.m. when Woodinville and Redmond meet for a spot in the semi-finals and the right to face either Newport or Inglemoor.

Issaquah and Ballard, as well as Skyline and defending 4A state champion Bothell will round out the first day’s action.

All games winner’s bracket games are at Woodinville High School with Inglemoor playing host to loser’s bracket contests.

Both teams that reach the title game will earn automatic bids to state and the third place team will play a crossover game against a WesCo opponent for the final spot in the 16 team 4A state tournament.

Boys soccer

Inglemoor and Newport will meet in one opening round game while Redmond and Issaquah square-off in the other. The winners will play for a spot in the crossover game while the losers will be eliminated.

Regular season champion Skyline and second place finisher Roosevelt will play for the top seed from the district. Both are already secured a place in the state tournament.

Track and field

The 4A KingCo track and field meet is at Juanita High School May 9 and 11 and top qualifiers will move to the bi-district meet at Marysville-Pilchuck on May 16 and 18.

3A KingCo

Baseball

Bannerwood Park in Bellevue will be home the 3A KingCo baseball tournament, which begins on Tuesday when Mercer Island and Liberty meet for the right to play defending 3A state champion Mount Si.

Juanita and Bellevue will play the other opening round game with a spot in the semi-finals against Lake Washington on the line.

The tournament champion will earn a state bid while the second place team will play a crossover game against a Metro League opponent for the second berth.

Track and field

The 3A KingCo track and field meet runs concurrently with the 4A meet at Juanita. The Sea-King District meet will be May 16 and 18 at Southwest Athletic Complex in Seattle.

Boys soccer

The tournament begins on Monday with four teams playing for one automatic bid. The regular season champion is not part of the tournament, having already locked up a spot at state.
