Newport girls take over first in Crest division | Prep Basketball recap

GIRLS BASKETBALL

No. 3 Newport 53, Redmond 40

Betsy Kingma scored a game-high 23 points to lead No. 3 Newport past Redmond 53-40.

With Issaquah losing, Newport (15-1, 11-1 KingCo 4A) took over sole possession of first place in the KingCo 4A crest division with the win. Caitlin Bennett scored 16 points for the Knights and Chanel Cambronero added 10.

Marissa Pratt led Redmond (6-10, 3-9) with 17 points.

Bellevue 41, Juanita 29

Catelyn Webber scored 11 points and Bellevue outscored Juanita 14-5 in the second quarter as part of a 41-29 victory over the Rebels.

Natalie Anderson added eight points for Bellevue (11-6, 7-2 KingCo 3A/2A). Kimberly Baba had nine points for Juanita (10-7, 6-3). Her twin sister Michelle added seven.

Mercer Island 64, Interlake 47

Jae Shin scored 19 points to help lead Mercer Island past Interlake 64-47.

Hailey Gullstad added 10 points for the No. 4 Islanders (13-3, 8-0). Sarah Anderegg scored a game-high 22 points for the Saints (8-8, 1-7), while Litia Ngauamo added 20.

Liberty 50, Sammamish 25

Aspen Winegar scored 18 points as Liberty doubled up Sammamish 50-25 in Bellevue.

Maddie Birdsall chipped in 10 points for the Patriots (7-10, 4-5). Natsumi Naito led Sammamish (2-14, 0-9) with 10 points.

Bellevue Christian 49, Cedar Park Christian 38

The Vikings had four players score in double figures as they knocked off Cedar Park Christian 49-38.

Lauren Mortier (13 points), Kelli Taylor (11), Alina Valle (11) and Maren Haines (10) all had double figures for the Vikings (12-4, 10-0 Emerald City League).

Mikaela Raschick scored 12 points for Cedar Park Christian (9-5, 7-3).

BOYS BASKETBALL

No. 2 Bellevue 71, Juanita 40

Juanita scored just 16 first-half points as No. 2 Bellevue easily dispatched the Rebels 71-40 in Kirkland.

Aaron Bright let the Wolverines (16-1, 9-0 KingCo 3A/2A) with 20 points. Ian Gordon added 13.

Ryon Cunnigan led Juanita (6-11, 2-7) with 12 points.

Liberty 58, Sammamish 57

Chandler Jenkins scored 13 points to lead Liberty to a 58-57 upset of Sammamish in Bellevue.

The Patriots improved to 5-12 and 2-7 in league play with the win.

John Steinberg led the Totems (11-6, 5-4) with 14 points in the loss.

Mercer Island 57, Interlake 34

The Islanders held Interlake scoreless in the first quarter and rolled on for a 57-34 win.

Gabe Fruchter scored 18 points for Mercer Island (8-8, 5-3) to lead all scorers.

Jeffrey Kimmel had 10 points in the loss for Interlake (6-9, 0-8).

Bellevue Christian 64, Cedar Park Christian 59

Jake Vandenbrink scored a game-high 22 points as Bellevue Christian held on to beat Cedar Park Christian 64-59.

Chris Pattison added 17 points for the Vikings (11-5, 8-0 Emerald City League). David Downs had 11 points.

Tommy McCullough scored 17 points to lead Cedar Park Christian (10-7, 6-3).

Redmond 58, Newport 47

Trace Tam Sing scored 14 points for the Knights but Newport couldn’t overcome Redmond, losing 58-47 to the Mustangs.

Conner Floan scored 21 points for Redmond (5-11, 4-8 KingCo 4A) to lead all scorers.

Newport dropped to 4-12 overall and 3-9 in league play.
