Chris Lilley, part of the 2012 Newport boys state title tennis team and third place doubles pair for the Knights, has continued to make a name for himself at the collegiate level and was recently named Men’s Athlete of the Week at George Fox University. He also picked up honorable mention honors for the Northwest Conference Athlete of the Week.
Lilley was the sixth seeded player in the USTA/ITA Small College Northwest Regional Tournament and made the Elite 8 in singles, a feat he has now accomplished in each of his two years with the Bruins.
In doubles, Lilley and partner Justin McClain advanced to the semi-finals of the tournament before being beaten.
The 2012 Newport grad was named first team All-Conference last season as a freshman and finished the year 13-2 in singles and 9-9 in doubles.
During his senior season at Newport, Lilley and teammate Dylan Harlow were the third place finishers in the 4A state doubles tournament after reaching the semi-finals as the Knights won the first of back-to-back team championships.
