Loschky comes through in the clutch for the Totems

A Q&A with the player who clinched the team’s Sept. 11th win

With the outcome of a gridiron matchup between the Sammamish Totems and Foster Bulldogs football teams hanging in the balance, Sammamish Head Coach Todd Craig put the game in the hands of his team’s new starting signal caller.

The Totems, who trailed the Bulldogs 29-28, had just scored on a touchdown toss from junior quarterback Kekoa Loschky with less than a minute left in regulation. Craig decided to go for the two-point conversion and the win instead of potentially tying the game with an extra point.

The plan worked to perfection.

Loschky successfully converted the two-point conversion with a quarterback sneak up the middle and the Totems left Tukwila with a dramatic 30-29 win on Sept. 11.

“We just put all of our biggest lineman at guard and at center and the coaches just called a quarterback sneak on down,” Loschky said.

Loschky, who finished the game with two touchdown passes as well as the game-winning two points, said he could feel the support of his teammates in his first ever varsity start at the quarterback. The 5-foot, 9-inch, 145-pounder previously played the wide receiver position.

“It was definitely a good feeling to show them that I could do it. I could tell they all believed in me,” he said.

Recently the Bellevue Reporter had an opportunity to ask Loschky a few questions about his life away from the football field.
