KingCo playoff picture clears KingCo playoff picture clears

KingCo’s playoff picture began to get a bit clearer after Friday night’s action. The three playoff teams in 3A have been decided; the only question now is seeding.

KingCo’s playoff picture began to get a bit clearer after Friday night’s action. The three playoff teams in 3A have been decided; the only question now is seeding.

There is no such question for the Wolverines of Bellevue. Bellevue’s 24-7 victory over Liberty on Friday clinched the league title for the Wolverines, their fourth in five years. They’ll be the No.1 seeded team.

Even with the loss, Liberty also clinched a spot in the playoffs, thanks to Mount Si’s 35-14 win over Juanita, a win that also assured the Wildcats a post-season spot.

What’s undecided is the seeding between the Patriots (6-2, 4-1 KingCo 3A) and the Wildcats (5-3, 4-1). Conveniently, the two schools meet this Friday in Renton. The winner takes the second playoff spot; the loser leaves with the third.

Interlake earned enough wins to qualify for the 2A playoffs with a 64-28 non-conference victory over Mount Rainier. It ends a near 20-year playoff drought for the Saints.

Over in KingCo 4A land, Skyline (Crest Division) and Bothell (Crown Division) both have clinched playoff spots and will meet up in this week’s KingCo 4A championship game. Regardless of the result, both teams will move onto the playoffs. The loser of the game will be the second overall seed.

The second place teams in each division are automatically in and will play each other for state seeding. That means Issaquah will face off with Woodinville.

The only spots up for grabs are the fifth and sixth playoff spots. Again, divisions will cross over, as the Crest Divisions third place team (Eastlake) will play the Crown’s fourth-place team (Roosevelt) for a bid to state. Likewise, Crest Division’s fourth-place team (Newport) will take on Inglemoor, the Crown’s third-place team in another winner-to-state game.

Here’s what we know for sure in each division:

KingCo 3A

Playoff spots: Three

In: Bellevue, Liberty and Mount Si

Out: Juanita, Mercer Island, Sammamish

Notes: Interlake will play in the 2A state playoffs.

KingCo 4A

Playoff spots: Six

In: Skyline, Bothell, Issaquah and Woodinville

In contention: Eastlake, Newport, Inglemoor and Roosevelt

Out: Redmond, Garfield, Lake Washington, and Ballard.

This week’s action should be great with three games (Liberty-Mount Si, Eastlake-Roosevelt and Newport-Inglemoor) deciding playoff spots or seeding. An exciting weekend for sure.
