The Interlake 8th grade boys select basketball team recently defied the odds, winning the Silver Division Championship as the eighth seed in a nine-team tournament.

The team started tournament play on Saturday, Feb. 28 against Lake Washington Select at BCC and the Saints defeated Lake Washington 67-40.

Interlake took on the No.1 seed in the tournament the next game, defeating Juanita 66-59 to make the semi-finals, where they defeated Bothell 62-52. All three games were played in the same day, all Interlake wins.

The championship game was played the following day at Juanita High School, and saw Interlake take on Issaquah Select. The game was tied until the final 25 seconds, when Interlake went ahead and held on for a 58-55 victory.

“As the underdogs, just making it to the championship is a testament to their spirit and their abilities and confidence,” said head coach Will Beatie. “The program and parents are very proud.”
