Defending champs back in semi-finals | Prep sports news

Bellevue is back in the boys Division I state semi-finals in lacrosse and will face Eastside Catholic next week for a spot in the championship game.

Bellevue continued its state title defense in the boys Division I lacrosse tournament Thursday, beating Eastlake 15-5 in the quarterfinals to advance to next week’s state semis.

Hank Bethke scored six goals and added five ground balls for the Wolverines, which led 10-3 at the half and never looked back.

Cole Johnson added five goals, a pair of assists and six ground balls in the win as Bellevue moved back to the title game for the third time in the past four seasons.

It will be a familiar face in Eastside Catholic making the trip to Wolverine Way on Wednesday for the 7 p.m. start with a spot in the title game on the line. The Crusaders, which defeated King’s Way 14-10 in another quarterfinal, were the final hurdle on Bellevue’s run to the title last year.
