Brandy Pugh Memorial Classic kicks off tomorrow

The Lakeside Recovery Senior Legion baseball club kicks off its annual Brandy Pugh Memorial Classic tomorrow night, taking on Bellevue Honda at 8 p.m. at Bannerwood Park.

The Seattle Stars won last years tournament. The Stars are back again this season, playing in the Grey Division of the 12-team tournament. Lakeside and Bellevue Honda are both in the Green Division.

After taking on Honda tonight, Lakeside will continue play Thursday against the Twin City Titans at 5 p.m. and will then play Friday against the Kennewick Bandits at 8 p.m.

Saturday will see the team play the Vancouver Cardinals at 8 p.m. Sunday the team plays LC Red Lion at Bellevue College at 2 p.m.

Championship day is Monday at Bannerwood.

The team opens up the Brandy Pugh coming off the heels of a weekend tournament in Oregon. Lakeside went 3-2 at the Curt Daniels Memorial Tournament in Portland, losing to the Federal Way Buzz 9-8 in their final game of the tournament, held at the University of Portland.

Lakeside started off the tournament by losing in 31-22 in an absolute slugfest against the Medford Mustangs. The team then rebounded to win three-straight, beating C&H Baseball 17-3, Portland Baseball 12-9 and the Rips Brewers 12-5.

In the tournament’s final game, Lakeside fell behind 7-2 in the fourth inning before rallying for four runs in the top of the fifth. But Federal Way would score two in the bottom of the inning and while Lakeside would score twice more in the sixth, they fell 9-8 to the Buzz.

Lakeside’s Peyton Harrod took the loss in the game, allowing two runs in four innings of work. The team was led offensively by Issaquah’s Spencer Rogers, who went 3 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs, and Mario Sanelli, who went 2 for 4 and scored three runs.
