Bellevue’s Stanchi makes US National Cadet team | Community sports news

Marco Stanchi of Bellevue is now one step away from representing the US in international water polo competition.

Bellevue’s Marco Stanchi, a sophomore and member of the water polo team, was named to the US National Cadet team recently after participating in the regional program previously.

Stanchi, a sophomore, will head to California in June to be part of the 28-player program and will try to earn one of 13 spots on the team that will compete in the UANA Pan-American U17 Youth Tournament in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Stanchi, who had formerly kept his focus on swimming, only began player water polo in May of 2012 with Rain City Water Polo. He joined the prep squad in the fall as Bellevue won a second straight state title and just more than a year after beginning his career in the game, is among the best in the country in his age group.
