Bellevue’s Jimmy Trull wins wrestling titles, will go to nationals

Bellevue's Jimmy Trull won both the USAW Cadet Freestyle and Greco Roman 215-pound championships at Battle Ground High School on March 27 and 28 in the USAW Northwest Regional. The tournament is one of three qualifying events for nationals, held in Fargo, North Dakota. The greco roman tournament had 314 participants from Oregon, Washington, Idaho, California and Alaska. The top three finishers qualified for nationals.

The freestyle tournament had 472 participants.

Blake Johnson, a Mercer Island wrestler who trains with the Wolverine Wrestling Club, advanced to nationals by taking third in freestyle and fourth in greco roman.

Five different Wolverine Wrestling Club wrestlers won matches at the tournament, which included champions and state placers from all over the region, as well as several All-Amercians from last year’s national tournament.
