Bellevue youths compete at USA Track and Field Junior Olympics

Makena Wick helped her team bring home a win in the 1,600 meter relay

A pair of Bellevue youngsters and St. Monica School students brought home medals from the USA Track and Field Pacific Northwest Region Junior Olympics recently.

Makena Wick, a 10-year-old, finished in fourth place in the 400 meter dash in the 11-12 year old division, running a personal best time of one minute, 4.73 seconds in the finals for Speed Unlimited.

Wick helped her team bring home the title in the 1,600 meter relay, as Speed Unlimited outraced three competing squads to finish in 4:31.27 and finish in first place.

Landon Armstrong, a 13-year-old, was fourth in the 100 meter dash 13-14 year old division, running 12.08 seconds. Armstrong ran 24.44 in the finals of the 200 meter dash, also good for a fourth place finish.

In the javelin, he finished in third place with a best throw of 38.71 meters with a 600g javelin.
