Bellevue Christian has been struggling of late, losing eight consecutive on the diamond. Coach Brian Potoshnik’s squad took out that frustration when they faced Bush in a double-header on Thursday, outscoring the Blazers by a combined total of 35-1 in the two games.
BCS got a huge effort from Nat Townsend in their 23-1 win in game one, as the senior went 2-2 with a homerun, double, two runs scored and three RBI. Noah Holmes, Matthew Haller and Dewald DeKlerk also had multiple base knocks in the game.
The Vikings, despite batting only four times in the mercy-rule shortened game, knocked out seventeen hits while the six hits from Bush was matched by their six errors in the field.
In the second match-up, Bush was able to clamp down defensively, holding the Vikings to less than half their run total from the first game in a 12-0 loss. Haller went four strong innings on the mound for BCS in picking up the win.
Islanders rough-up Snaring, Saints
Things were rolling right along for the Interlake Saints on Thursday; sporting a 5-1 lead with pitcher Carl Snaring mixing pitches effectively and leaving Mercer Island hitters baffled in the box.
Then the wheels fell off.
The Islanders erupted in the bottom half of the fourth, sending 12 men to the plate and scoring eight runs in the inning to chase Snaring and put the Saints in a 9-5 hole, winning by a final score of 15-11 at Island Crest Park.
Snaring was successful throughout the first three-plus innings, busting right handed hitters inside with a late-breaking curveball that they simply couldn’t seem to get a beat on. But as the game wore on, the luster wore off for the Interlake junior as his fastball lost velocity and the Islanders began to pepper the outfield with extra-base hits.
Mercer Island would continue to pour it on in the fifth, plating four more and erasing any chance of an Interlake comeback.
The Saints will be back in action on Friday, taking on Lake Washington at home with a first pitch time of 4:30 at Interlake High School in what will be their last home league game of the year.
Giacchetti pushes Totems past Bellevue
Freshman pitcher Joe Giacchetti picked up the win as the Sammamish Totems used a four run fourth inning to beat the Bellevue Wolverines by a final score of 4-2 on Thursday at Bellevue High School.
Jeff Van Orman took the loss for the Wolverines, who suddenly find themselves in the midst of a four-game tailspin after running through the first half of the schedule nearly flawless. Bellevue has dropped four in a row and will look to get themselves right when they travel to Lee Johnson Field at Peter Kirk Park on Friday to face Juanita under the lights at 7 p.m.
The Totems will be in Snoqualmie on Friday to face league-leading Mount Si, who still has yet to fall to a 3A/2A KingCo opponent this year.
Lake Washington nets win over Saints
Both of the top matches of the day went to the visiting Saints, as Alysha Dhami (6-4, 6-7, 10-8) and the pair of Amy Yasutake and Chelsea Bucklin (6-0, 6-0) won the number one singles and doubles matches, but the Saints were out-dueled by the depth of the Kangs as Lake Washington won the team scoring 5-2 in girls tennis on Thursday.
