The Bellevue Blue 7/8 lacrosse team wrapped up their season with a 6-5 overtime win in the championship game against Mercer Island Black at Seattle Memorial Stadium last week.

After Mercer Island won the faceoff in overtime, Bellevue keeper Cole Cansler stopped a shot and fed the ball up the sideline. Bellevue called a timeout to draw up a final play, which saw Bellevue’s Eric Haehl burying a 15-foot shot into the right upper corner of the net for the championship.

The championship came just a week after the team won the Oregon Cup tournament in Beaverton. Bellevue went 4-0 to reach the championship game against Lake Oswego, Ore., where the Wolverines won 10-3. It was the first summer select tournament win in club history.

“This championship win was a result of a total team effort,” said co-head coach Chris Bergin. “It’s nice to see these kids achieve this goal…I know how bad they wanted it after finishing as a runner-up last year.”
