BASEBALL

Mercer Island 2, Sammamish 1

Willy Reel allowed only one run in a complete-game effort, striking out five and walking none in Mercer Island’s 2-1 win over Sammamish. Ross Kulczyk went 2-for-3 to lead the Totems (7-10, 6-9 KingCo 3A/2A). Mercer Island improved to 8-8 overall and 7-8 in league play with the win.

Bellevue 7, Interlake 2

The Wolverines scored seven runs on nine hits, beating Interlake 7-2 at Bellevue High School.

David Heyduck got the win for Bellevue (12-5, 11-5) on the mound, allowing two runs in four innings of work. Alex Bielaski struck out five in only two innings for the Wolverines. Troy Peterson took the loss for Interlake (2-15, 2-14).

Newport 6, Garfield 5

Garfield scored five runs in the seventh inning to tie the game at five, but Newport was able to get a walk-off run across the plate as the Knights survived a scare to beat the Bulldogs 6-5. Brandon Andreini allowed only one hit in six innings of work, striking out 10 and walking only one, but Cole Wiper got the win for Newport (9-8, 7-7). Garfield fell to 4-13 overall and 3-11 in conference play.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Overlake 13, Bellevue 13

Erica Johnson over Overlake made 16 saves as they tied Bellevue 13-13.
