Twitter lesson/Tacoma’s achievement/funny money | Editorials

Three things caught our attention this week: The dangers of posting on Twitter, Tacoma's achievement and funny money.

A little bird told us

We’re pretty sure Kathlyn Ehl never will forget about Twitter.

The policy assistant to gubernatorial candiate Rob McKenna’s campaign resigned from that job this week after two of her past postings on the social-network site appeared to criticize Asians and the elderly.

We don’t want to repeat her slam to both groups here, but let’s just say that they were insensitive and cruel.

McKenna called them “insensitive and wrong.”

It’s easy to forget that things posted on the web can be seen by anyone and that they can stay there forever.

Ehl has apologized and she was right to resign.

Go Tacoma

A website, Moving.com, has ranked Tacoma as one of the top “10 Best Cities for Millenials,” based on affordable housing, low unemployment and access to nearby attractions and education.

Wow, we say.

But wait. Before you pack up the moving van, the site also says that the metropolitan area of Tacoma includes Bellevue and Seattle.

Well, of course.

Dubious achievement

A new study shows that Seattle is the fourth-most-congested city in North America. The Tom Tom traffic-data company says January snowstorms, the start of tolling on the 520 bridge and general slowdowns contributed to the ranking.

Wonder how high the area will climb in the rankings if we get a new sports stadium in Seattle’s Sodo district?

Funny money

JPMorgan Chase said that a bad trade had cost the bank $5.8 billion this year. CEO Jamie Dimon added that if financial markets deteriorate severely, the bank could lose an additional $1.7 billion.

Investors responded by sending the stock’s price up $1.50 a share.
