Thumbs UP for Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper for not referring to the man by name who is accused of killing 12 people and wounding 58 at a movie theater. Some psychiatrists say that gaining notoriety can encourage people to commit violent acts. “In my house, we’re just going to call him ‘suspect A,’” Hickenlooper said. An audience of thousands broke into cheers and applause at Hickenlooper’s remarks.
Thumbs UP for Ed Ray, president of Oregon State University and chairman of the NCAA’s executive committee, for declaring, “We’ve had enough. This [whatever-it-takes-to-win philosophy] has to stop.” Ray was commenting on penalties imposed by the NCAA on Penn State following the conviction of former assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky of molesting children.
