The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation campus in Seattle lit us the sky last month to promote the worldwide battle to eradicate polio. “End Polio Now” was projected on the unfinished northeast side of the campus and numerous other buildings around the world.

The Gates’ foundation, along with Rotary clubs around the world, are making a final push to end the disease with Rotarians having contributed more than $1 billion and countless volunteer hours for the eradication effort.

“We’re delighted to help spread Rotary’s message and to recognize

Rotary’s leadership in the fight to eradicate polio,” said Apoorva Mallya, Program Officer at the foundation. The Gates Foundation has provided more than $355 million to the Rotary Foundation’s PolioPlus program in support of Rotary’s hands-on efforts to eradicate polio.

Local Rotary clubs across the Eastside are participating in the effort.
