William Creswick Schettler

William Creswick Schettler passed away unexpectedly on 24 December 2009 at his home in Bellevue, WA. Throughout his life, he had a deep and abiding faith in the Lord God. He joins his beloved wife of 54 years, Grace Gimre Schettler, who preceded him to eternal life by 40 days. William was born to Franklin William and Gertrude Violet (Tilley) Schettler on 19 August 1928 in Beaver Dam, WI. He graduated from Wayland Academy in 1946 and the University of Wisconsin with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (1950) and a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (1957). He served during the Korean War as a Navy pilot. It was during this time that he met, fell deeply in love, and married his wife Grace on 13 August 1955 in Astoria, OR. He worked as an engineer his entire career, retiring from the Port of Seattle, SEA-TAC, in 1998 after 26 years. He had a rich life as a loving husband and a wonderful father and grandfather to his three children and nine grandchildren. His dependability, humor and giving spirit touched all who knew him. Bill was an active member and officer in Toastmasters International, American Institute of Plant Engineers, and PROBUS. He also enjoyed history, traveling, flying, sailing, camping, scouting, swimming, tennis, and designing/building homes.William was a long-time member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church, where he served faithfully in many capacities, including Chair of the Property Commission, Diocesan Delegate and Usher Team Leader. William is survived by his children James (Moira) Schettler, Susan (Timothy) McMains, and Barbara (James) Moffat, and his grandchildren: Joshua, Mark, Melissa and Daniel Schettler; Gregory, David and Scott McMains; and Ethan and Deborah Moffat. In addition to his wife, Grace, he is predeceased by his sister, Mary Schettler Minter. He will be greatly missed by his close family, relatives and numerous friends. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, 6 January 2010 at 1:00 pm at Saint Thomas Episcopal Church, 8398 NE 12th Street, Medina, with a reception following.
