Mary D. Frickel

April 6, 1916 – December 6, 2010

Mary was born in Dixie, Washington to Riley and Jenny Wilkinson Sexton. She and her twin sister Martha were the youngest of nine children, four sets of twins and one single. Mary graduated from Union High School in Sedro Woolley, Washington. Mary was married to Philip Frickel in 1937. She had been a widow since 1989. She owned and operated “Mary’s Beauty Shop” in Tacoma, Washington until retirement in 1985. She and Phil lived in Bellevue, WA and later on Mercer Island, Washington to be closer to family. She is survived by two sons and their families, Verlin and Patricia Frickel of Bellevue, WA, and Larry and Lorna Frickel of Mercer Island, WA. Five grandchildren; Christopher (Amie) and Nathan Frickel; Andrew (Darcy), Phillip (Susan) Frickel, and Beth (Chris) Hetkey; Twelve great grandchildren, Brennan, Taden, Kellen, Maddox, Clayton, Kelly, Abigail, Jacob, Amber, Maxwell Frickel and Alex and Logan Hetkey. Mary, in addition to raising a family along with being a business owner, had many interests that occupied her hands and her thought life. She was skilled with an afghan hook; she created beautiful art using needlepoint. She was an avid reader of historical novels and a lifelong baseball fan. She completed a score card at every game she attended. She had a keen interest in local, state, and national politics. She was a lifelong Democrat and welcomed a lively debate on issues of concern to her. She counted herself as a believer in The Lord Jesus Christ. She was baptized at Faith Presbyterian Church in Tacoma, WA. She was laid to rest with her husband of 52 years at Mt. View Cemetery, Lakewood, WA on 12/11/2010. Remembrances can be made in Mary’s name to The Union Gospel Mission, PO Box 202, Seattle, WA. 98111 or Child Evangelism Fellowship, PO Box 348, Warrenton, MO. 63383. A memorial service for close friends and family will be held January 22nd, 2011 at Bellewood Presbyterian Church in Bellevue, Washington. The service will be at 10:AM with lunch following.
