A woman was killed early Wednesday morning when her car hit a dump truck head on in the westbound lanes of State Route 520 in Bellevue.

The driver was traveling the wrong way in the westbound lanes, according to Washington State Patrol.

The incident began at approximately 4 a.m. when the woman, driving a Mitsubishi Galant, sat with its lights off in a lane of traffic. The car was rear-ended by a garbage truck, spinning the Mitsubishi in the opposite direction. The driver then took off heading east in the westbound lanes.

A short time later, the Mitsubishi collided with a dump truck, shoving the vehicle underneath the truck.

The crash caused a closure of SR 520 westbound for several hours near the Interstate 405 interchange.

According to Washington State Patrol, alcohol is believed to be a factor, but no concrete evidence was found in the car.

The Department of Ecology is also on the scene, responding a fuel spill related to the crash.
